No. But the South isn’t generally the most welcoming to the LGBTQ+ community. All around, people in the South reported feeling significantly more discomfort with queer people, compared to the U.S. overall, according to GLAAD. (More stats + details).

No. Have we experienced hate and discrimination? Yes. Has it been explicit at times? Yep. But it’s not usually an obvious or loud act, and it’s not always visible to people who don’t experience this kind of otherness. In 2020, more than 1 in 3 Americans dealt with discrimination in the past year. (Stats here, and more LQBTQ+ stories here.)

If you’re an ally, you’re welcome! If you support members of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as people of color, people with disabilities, and other marginalized people — we welcome and need you. Allies are an important part of making space for marginalized folks.

Nope. Every member of the LGBTQ+ community has their own experiences, stories, opinions. We’re just one part of a big picture, and of a community we hope to make stronger and safer.
